Mens Warehouse

From LoveToKnow Men's Fashion

Though it's actually known as Men's Wearhouse, many shoppers may refer to it as Men's Warehouse. No matter how you spell it, though, one thing is certain about this shopping mecca: It knows how to dress a man!

A one-stop shop for your menswear needs is so convenient.

About the Company

If ever there was a fine example of humble beginnings, the story of Men's Warehouse certainly qualifies. Inspired by his travels to Hong Kong with his father, who owned a coat manufacturing business, a young man named George Zimmer decided to open a store catering to men's fashions. The store's first employees were none other than Zimmer's college roommates, and since Zimmer could not afford a cash register, he made do with a cigar box. The merchandise consisted primarily of polyester sports coats from Zimmer's father's business. It was with this barebones foundation that the first Men's Wearhouse opened in Houston, Texas in 1973.

It was only uphill for the company from there. Growing at a rapid rate, the company opened its second store in 1974. By the '80s, the company had expanded to the West coast and the Midwest. The '90s saw the company rise further up the ranks, adding quality items like dress shoes and sportswear to the already impressive roster of merchandise. It was in 1999 that the company tested the waters and began to rent tuxedos in select markets. The venture was a huge success, and by 2002 nearly all locations were renting tuxedos.

Today, the company is parent to a chain of dry cleaning stores, the Canadian menswear chain Moores Clothing for Men and discount retailer K&G Fashion Superstore.

Commitments

High-quality menswear is about more than just a great looking suit. At Men's Warehouse, certain standards must be upheld. The company's commitments include:

  • Quality: Ensuring customers look their best starts with high-quality merchandise. The company guarantees that you'll love the way you look!
  • Price: Whether you're shopping private label or designer names, you can expect reasonable, affordable prices.
  • Service: Expert "Wardrobe Consultants" help you select the pieces that best work for you, whether you're shopping for a whole new wardrobe or just a single item.
  • Fit: Repairs, alterations, pressing, hemming and even a 24-hour tailoring service are all part of the commitment to a perfect fit.
  • Tailoring: You won't be charged a tailoring fee that's built into the price of your clothes; instead, you're charged just for tailoring work that is actually performed.

Men's Warehouse Merchandise

Whether you're shopping for yourself or for someone else, you're sure to find smart, polished pieces with an upscale touch. The company carries everything from suits, ties and sports coats to activewear, formalwear and sportswear. There are also accessories, such as robes, slippers, jewelry and cologne, as well as apparel for big and tall men.

If you're looking for a gift, the shirt-and-tie sets are especially popular. Each set contains a smart button-down shirt and a coordinating tie. Considering that matching can be a bit of a challenge for some, this is definitely a product to take advantage of if you're in the market for some new shirts for the office.

The Fresh Shirt Club

The innovative Fresh Shirt Club is a great way for busy professionals to maintain their wardrobes without a lot of effort. The program includes a 100 percent cotton, non-iron dress shirt, as well as an optional matching silk tie, every month for six months. This program not only keeps your wardrobe fresh and updated, it's also backed by the expertise of the company's Wardrobe Consultants.

Wardrobe Packages

If you're not one for spending hours shopping for a new wardrobe every season, you're in luck. The company's Wardrobe Packages are designed to integrate new pieces into your wardrobe seamlessly. Select items are grouped by style and budget and offered in packages that are arranged by price.

For example, each season may have several packages to select from: business traditional, business casual, daytime leisure and nighttime leisure, to name a few. The collections are then further broken down by price, into $500, $1000, $1500 and $2000 groups. Select the price that best suits your budget and you'll find a list of coordinated items (including tops, sportscoats, pants and accessories) all available to purchase in one shot.

Since not all items are available in-store, it's a good idea to purchase your preferred items online and then bring them to your local store for any necessary alterations.
