Ninja Suit

From LoveToKnow Men's Fashion

You may not be asked to join an elite squad of Japanese fighters, but when wearing a thermal ninja suit, you’ll certainly be full of vim and fight in any weather. Mostly worn for serious snow sports, a good one of these will keep you warm no matter what the conditions.

A ninja suit is your perfect bottom layer for snowboarding.

The Need for a Ninja Suit

It does sound like a joke, but regular snowboarders or other winter sportsmen know that spending that much time on, and in, the snow requires some serious cold weather gear. But you don’t want to wear too many layers because it can hamper your movements. A ninja suit is the perfect bottom layer because it’s relatively thin and lightweight; it’s a one-piece suit that even has a hood. You can take serious rolls in the snow and stay warm and dry for hours wearing one of these bad boys.

Every Shredder’s Favorite Suit

By far, the most popular ninja suit for the man who likes a winter workout is the Airblaster. It comes in three fun prints (women’s suits are available in a few colors) and is sold at many online shops. In fact, no one else seems to make ninja suits.

Airblaster aims to do that just that – blast air. Away from you, that is! So this one-piece suit was specifically designed to make sure no cold drafts hit any part of your body, especially the two most cold-sensitive parts: the waistline and the head and neck. The suit is designed so that the layer never moves, keeping you protected at all times. It also has what they call “monkey palms” to keep your wrists dry and hands warm. Airblaster does not indicate what the fabric content of the suit is, but the company does claim that it’s a four-way stretch wicking fabric, allowing for maximum movement and no sweat on your skin. If you need to cool off a bit, just pull down the hood or unzip the front chest zipper.

Of course, you’re wondering about the need for a bathroom break. Men always do have it easier than women, but this still isn’t a situation where you want to suffer too much chill. The Airblaster suit has a panel front fly and rear U-zip, so whenever nature calls, you can deal with it quickly and easily without (hopefully) getting cold.

Of the three ninja suit styles available, the Kobra Kai is the favorite and no wonder – it’s black with a white skeleton on front! It can double as your Halloween costume if you like. The suit also comes in gray terry and plain black with a very cool star on the left side of the chest.

Reviews for the Airblaster Suit

Snowboard Magazine rated the Airblaster ninja suit as its 2008-09 Platinum Pick. They say it is the most important piece of snowboard gear you can own, right up there with board and bindings. When experts in the field say something is good, they mean it.

Actual users are, overall, enthusiastic. Concerns, like it might be too warm if it wasn’t freezing out, were soon alleviated, as the suit was found to be versatile and to adjust for various temperatures. Most users rave about how warm and dry they stay even after a power roll or a serious day’s shredding.

There are a few complaints about the sizing. The suits range in size to extra-large, but because the suits are one piece, some people will definitely have problems getting a perfect fit. One tall boarder found that the inseam was completely off. Another, who otherwise loves the suit, found it a bit uncomfortable when sitting, as the zipper doesn’t stretch. If possible, you’d do well to buy a ninja suit at a retail outlet where you can try it on, or look for an online source that does easy exchanges/returns.

Happy warm and dry shredding!
